The pastry comes out warm and flaky, while the strawberry filling reaches a temperature roughly equal to the surface of the sun. Every single time I take a bite too soon. Every single time I regret it. Every single time I do it again the next morning. Then comes the frosting packet. Nothing says "I've got my life together" quite like standing in your kitchen at 7 a.m. frosting a toaster pastry with the concentration of a brain surgeon. You carefully spread every last bit across the top, making sure no corner is left behind. For a brief moment, you're not just making breakfast—you're creating art.
