Koss Pro4AA Studio Quality Over-Ear Headphones, Retro Style, Full-Size, Beige

I've owned a Koss Pro 4AA headset since the late 1970s. Other than the fact that they are slightly heavy, they fit tight to seal out any room sounds. They reproduce a wide frequency range accurately. If you have a clean recording, close your eyes. It's almost like being there.

First place, these headphones are deceptively named. They are Pro 4AA headphones, though they're listed as Pro 4Aa -- that second "a" is hard to notice so I thought I was getting the original Pro 4A's, which were superb. These are a heavy plastic version of the original metal 4A's (had a set of each, a long time ago.) The frequency range is still excellent and they are just about as flat as can be, tone-wise. In fact, that's the problem. They lack the depth of the original Pro 4A's. They compare fairly favorably to my Sony MDR V6's (What you sacrifice in weight you may feel you make up for in the fact that the ear cups are stationary, unlike the Sony's, which you have to unfold just about every time you want to put them on.) (Note -- the 4AA's have a full-size banana plug, not the current standard 3mm one. You'll need an adapter for your phone, for instance.)
