I have long, thin hair down to my waist. This is the perfect size. My bun is about fist size. I think if you had thick hair you'd need a longer twist, or you would need to use two twists to secure your bun. I have these scattered all over my house and work for those days that the hair has to go up. These go in smooth and come out painless. Don't bother with knock offs, while they hold the bun securely, they snag coming out.
