Strong smell of mildew

This set of pencil smells like mold or an old basement. I cannot use them because if I open the box, I get a massive smell of mildew. I had to return the first set I bought from dickblick, but it was in a wooden box. I thought it was possibly the wood box. It was not. The only thing I can figure out is that a bunch of these were on a shipping container together. It makes me mad. I wanted to use and try out these pencils. I have every type and brand possible. This is the only ones I cannot use.
