  • ROASTED ORGANIC CHICORY ROOT: Chicory root is a hardy perennial best known as a coffee alternative, producing a similar beverage that’s caffeine free. It also supports a healthy digestive system.
  • COFFEE SUBSTITUTE: Commonly used as a zero-caffeine coffee substitute, this has a similar flavor to actual coffee but is less stimulating. It is also used to enhance the flavor of regular coffee.
  • FLAVORFUL: Our organic Chicory Root is ground and roasted to produce a robust flavor. It tastes similar to coffee yet its bitterness is more mild, while also producing a carmelized, nutty taste.

I was prepared not to, but, I Like It!

I've read a lot of reviews about how gross this stuff is. I wanted to see if I could transition from decaf to this. I am UBER sensitive to caffiene...and even decaf gives me the jitters but I LOVE the taste of coffee. So could I transition? Would this taste ENOUGH like the real thing to satisfy my craving for the flavor of coffee? Actually, it did. You will have to monkey around with it to get it just right...read a bit online and pay attention to the instructions. It will NOT work well in a drip machine or other coffee makers because it takes a long time to develop...Think of it like tea that needs to steep a bit to reach max intensity. If you don't, it will taste like barely flavored hot water. Also, do not go by color...make it as sludgey and dark as you dare. That will then more closely equal a regular strong cup of coffee. I use a french press, or a tea ball. For a 32 oz french press, I use a level to heaping tablespoon...add boiling water and let it steap at least 5 but preferably 10 min or longer...this is fairly important to develop the flavor. I use a thermal french press so it doesn't get cold while I'm waiting. If it does get cold, pop a serving in a cup in the microwave. Back in the day it was cheaper than coffee and was used during war time when coffee was either unavailable or too expensive. Nowadays, it equals or exceeds the price per lb of coffee. I'm a convert. I wish I didn't have to order it...nobody locally stocks it. But It works for me.
