Derwent Lightfast Coloured Pencils, Set of 12

I'm normally a Prismacolor user but these Derwent Pencils are definitely impressive! I'd say they're about on par with Prisma, perhaps better. I really like the pigment and creamy application of these pencils. I find that they do a terrific job with blending. I think the set of 12 has a great array of colors, especially for portraits. I will definitely be purchasing the larger set in the future.

My Secret weapon

I was cautious about these pencils as I thought they were for children, then I purchases a set of 24. I was absolutely pleased with the results. I did some old barn landscapes and rusty old trucks with ease. The results were extremely lifelike. When doing old barns the colors of the old barn wood was completely realistic. When I did rusty trucks it was fantastic and they looked like real rust. I did a bald eagle and the feathers were super easy to do. They work great for grass and vegetation also. I used strokes for the feathers and the barn wood, this worked the best. I also did an Indian wearing a buckskin outfit (original Tonto) and it was easy and once again the buckskin looked realistic. I also draw cars, generally hot rods and customs and found the tri-color called "Flame" is the best for realistic flames on my hot rod drawings. With single strokes my flames look super, like it took all day to make them look good but I did it in no time with ease. They go on smoothly without a lot of white splotches like Prismacolor' s and some other brands. The Koh-I-Noor's are oil base and go on smooth. I call them "my secret weapon" as I didn't have to do a lot of layering and blending. I was so impressed with Koh-I-Noor I purchased the 24 set of Polycolor and also a 24 set of the woodless color pencils. I use Strathmore Colored Pencil Paper as I find this gives me the best results. I generally use the 9X12 size so my drawings are good size and not real small. I wish Jerry's would carry the 72 color Polycolor pencils as I would purchase them in a heartbeat. To sum it up Koh-I-Noor are high quality pencils and work extremely well. I sold my Prismacolor Premier's on eBay, that's how much I like the Koh-I-Noor pencils.
