I have five dogs. I bought this after one of my dogs had a dental surgery and most of his teeth were pulled and he needed soft food for at least a week. I was confused by the description whether it was a food topper or if you could use it by itself. I used it by itself and he ate it just fine. He loved it of course. He has never had some food before so most dogs like that when they're accustomed to hard foods. It smelled like chicken and looked like chicken and that is the first ingredient listed. They are small containers so depending on the size of your dog, you may need more than one. He is about 11 pounds and one was plenty for him.
