Works great as a bedside lamp and you can have a candle underneath it for a pleasant scent before bed. Seems like it needs to be in place where it will not be left on unattended. Candles do really melt quite quickly so keep that in mind if you have small kids/tall dogs.

I could see a significant amount of melting on the candle within 5 minutes. I noticed a good smell up to 10 feet away. The height adjustment feature is nice allowing you to speed up or slow down the melting. The outer part of the metal shade does get hot.
