The coarser material allows for air to reach the roots of the plant which improves plant performance. While small pieces of bark and twigs are intentional components of our growing media, including potting soil, garden soil, lawn soil, topsoil, etc., you should not find large pieces of wood or bark. Soils and soil amendment products may dry out too much in shipping or storage. which can make them become naturally water repellent, due to the peat moss and organic materials that are an important part of the soil mixture. Water can be slowly added back to the soil by pouring what you need into a bucket or tub and slowly stirring water into it, then using the product for it's intended application.
