Cooks faster and rice is fluffy

I needed a new rice cooker and so glad I got this one. It cooks the rice so much faster than my other one did. The rice turned out fluffy and cooked just right. I like the clear lid as you can see it cook where as my other one had the lid you could not see the rice. Nice extras included. The large spoon and the measuring cup is nice. Measure your rice in the measuring cup, pour it in the cooker, put the lid on and push the front button down to cook. I have gotten perfect fluffy rice every time. We had company over and everyone commented on how good the rice was. If no one is ready to eat when the rice is done no problem, there is a warmer on the rice cooker. Love this feature. Keeps the rice warm until you are ready to eat. The nonstick bowl lifts right out and I put it in the dishwasher with no problem. I do not like standing over something while it is cooking and with this you do not have to do that. My kind of cooking. To sum it up my expensive rice cooker took lots longer than this rice cooker did and the rice was just as good if not better.

Good performance in a small package

This handy little cooker will free up a burner on your stove if preparing several dishes for a meal. Place it on a countertop, sideboard or table, simply add measured amounts of rice and water (generally 2 parts water to 1 part rice) using the included measuring cup, put the lid on, plug in, push the “cook” lever down and let it do the rest (no standing over the stove to stir the rice or watching to make sure it doesn't burn!). When the rice is done, the cooking process stops automatically and the “warm” light will come on; scoop out the rice with the included paddle, stir, season and serve. Cleanup is very easy, as the inner pan is non-stick (use only wood or plastic utensils). The manual states that the pan is top-rack dishwasher safe; however, it is fairly lightweight aluminum and I think that better results would be obtained with handwashing with a non-abrasive sponge. I would definitely not place the included rice paddle in the dishwasher, as it is not much heavier than a regular disposable plastic fork or spoon and would likely be prone to warping. The one issue to be aware of, and as noted in the user manual, is that the cooker releases a substantial amount of steam and should not be placed directly underneath a cabinet. There is a small opening in the lid which allows the steam to escape, so I would recommend that when using the cooker, the lid be placed so that this opening is turned away from any cabinet or overhanging items. I was very satisfied with the results (it made wonderful rice pudding!) and would highly recommend this cooker.

Proctor Silex Rice cooker

I gave this product five stars because the rice is cooked perfectly. We like rice and I always made very good rice in the microwave but it took a little more watching. With this cooker the ingredients are added, turn it on and when finished the cooker turns to warm and keeps the rice perfect for serving. BUT it is messy. The first time I used it I used 1/2 cup less water that the maximum. Starchy steam shoots out from the vent in the lid during cooking that coats every thing within a foot of the vent so my cooky jar and toaster oven had a find layer of starch coating. Then I thought to make the minimum with just one cup of rice and two cups water. Rice perfect; messy counter afterwards. Of course if you move things away from the ricer and clean the counter before it dries, cleaning will be much easier. Because of the quality of the cooked rice I will continue using the cooker making the maximum amount and as cooked rice freezes so well I will just freeze what we do not use to cut down on the clean up. The bowl and lid clean up very nicely in the dishwasher.
