Van Camps Pork and Beans is an old standby. It does make a good side dish but I keep it on hand for those nights when everything else doesn't sound right. It's a good standby, and somehow reminds me of my grandparents. So I'd call it comfort food!

Comfort food that's been a choice since 1894

In the US this is the standard upon which all basic "pork and beans" should be judged. Almost classic label and logo make it easy to select. One small warning is that you might want to drain the can so that the excess liquid is removed, making the beans tidier on a plate. From childhood i have avoided the piece of pork fat that i suppose is there to keep things legal. I don't even recall seeing this white blob lately. Fine with me. If you want pork, add your own in the form of hot dogs or cooked straight pork.

I personally eat them right out of the can or my MOM made a salad out of them she would rinse them in cold water...add some home made Tarter sauce then lot's of black pepper (large ground) we ate it with a great sandwich sandwich and good ole fried fish n homemade fries n white bread n fresh white onion...mmmmm
