BEST CAT LITTER BOX ALTERNATIVE/BACKUP. These extra long foil pans are always part of my hurricane preparations when I get my cats' supplies together. One 5-pack buys a season's worth of peace of mind.
These are sturdy, do not bulge at the sides or have sharp edges, and at 19" long, they are comfortable for large house cats. The aluminum foil is heavy-duty including the bottom, so claws don't pucture it. The sides are not as high as a usual litter box, but good enough, and easuer for kittens and old cats to climb into, although kittens will play in it lol.
No need to buy extra deep turkey roasting pans that are 4 times as expensive, not that much thicker and you feel guilty throwing them away.
Honestly I don't know why these are so inexpensive but I have bought them at this price several times so it's not a typo. Because the price is so low, you can throw it away before it gets funky, or when washing is not an option because no water is available, but they are also plenty strong enough to wash and reuse multiple times if you wish.
Being aluminum foil, things do not stick to it, and they also do not get stained or absorb smells. This makes them a good choice for cats who have frequent urinary tract infections or low immunity. It is nice to be able to give them a fresh box. Keeping the box fresh has a big impact on reducing UTIs and unhappiness that causes behavior problems. The majority of "litter box problems," "accidents" and houses that "smell like cats" are because either the cat is sick and stressed or because the litter box is too dirty and that is affecting the cat's quality of life (and yours). If you just can't stand changing the litter box so you put it off until it's disgusting, do yourself and your cats a favor and try a 5-pack of these disposables. For the price of one large plastic litter box which will hold smells because it gets scratched and stained, you can buy two 5-packs of these.
Since they are not plastic, they are environmentally friendlier. If you are in temporary housing, a shelter or motel, you want to bring in a 100% clean litter box or two, not the one from home which always has some lingering smell. Yes, there are also hard stainless steel litter boxes on the market, but they start at around $125 and are half the size of a disposable aluminum foil pan. And bottom line, in situations where there is no water, you want something convenient, that you can afford to throw away and forget..
I gave 5 stars to each of the categories in the review except where it says to rate the lids. These do not come with lids. They are not supposed to. if they had lids, it would raise the price and defeat the purpose. I haven't seen any brands of steam table sized pans with lids. But I would not need them anyway.
I've never used these pans for anything but cat litter boxes, but they should be fine for cooking, organizing refrigerator shelves, cosmetics, starting plants etc. Just don't use the same box for everything!
