Sharper Image Drone DX-2 : Learning to fly

I purchased a much larger and much more expensive drone than this DX-2 and decided that I should purchase a much more smaller and less expensive drone for learning on before flying my large drone. I wanted a drone that I could easily be flown inside my home before attempting outside flight. This drone fit the bill perfectly. For $30.00 what is there to complain about? The drone flies very well and stable and does everything that I ask it to do. It feels much better made that the other micro quadcopters that I checked out. I had no prior flying experience until I purchased this little drone. I have run into about everything in the house and the copter is still going! This is not a hobby copter that you can buy endless supplies and parts for. I think it is entended to get you started into drone flying. Oh, and the problems with the auto landing that everyone is complaining about, you need to activate that at an altitude of 20-30' in the air just as the instruction manual states. If you attempt to auto land at a lesser height the copter wants to fly to that altitude before attempting to auto land. I iked this little drone so well that I went back and bought a second one so that I can get more flight time in before charges. Hope this helps someone, Thanks!

Lots of fun with my starter drone.

This is the only drone I've ever played with and it's a lot of fun. I've been using it in my living room. The controls are very sensitive and it takes concentration and many small adjustments to keep it on track, but I'm definitely getting the hang of it. It hovers really well and can fly fast and straight. When I was first learning to fly it, it hit the ceiling and floor (carpet!), etc. many times and did not break. It flies for 5 to 7 minutes before needing a recharge, but it's a pretty intense 5 to 7 minutes so I've been happy to stop each time.

There are two versions of this model!

I ordered two of these, and there appears to be two revisions of this particular product. The first came with a white USB charger and the manual was appended with a sticker to say it needed 120 minutes to charge. It was a total piece of junk. Props were brittle and broke easily on the first crash, had no power, didn't last long and took forever to charge. Returned it. The second one I purchased came with a black USB charger and the manual said it needed 60 minutes to charger. It's been GREAT. Tons of power, charges quick, lasts a long time. I've crashed it a LOT and am still on the original props too. So, if you get the one with a black charger, you're probably gonna love it. If you get the one with the white charger, be prepared for disappointment. Apart from that, it's true that the controller is a bit oddly shaped but I kind of like it.
