Good Affordable Tent

Best lightweight tent at this prize range! I am 6 feet tall and I can comfortably fit inside. A great feature I wasn't aware this tent had when I bought it was the expandable vent on the rainfly. Would recommend to a friend looking for an affordable backpacking tent!

Great Value

Not an ultralight tent but not heavy. Great quality and solid functionality. No frills or gimmicks just solid. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a decently light-ish weight tent on a budget. I am about 6'1. Let me tell you about the Marmot Tungsten UL 1P which I own and then I'll follow with Kelty's Discovery Trail 1P. My brother and I recently did 1.5 week bikepacking adventure and I lent him the Discovery Trail. He was quite happy with it. Marmot Tungsten UL 1P:It's a tad short in length for my full comfort (toes touching the end if my head isn't nearly touching the other). It has pre-bent poles and an asymmetrical design with one pocket at the 'head' end near the door. Each camp site is different; I found that 50% of the time the orientation of tent setup requires that your head be at the 'foot' end of the tent. The only reason the tent has a 'foot' end is because its asymmetrical. With your head at the 'foot' end the single pocket is now out of reach. I found the asymmetrical design to be a little silly.Kelty Discovery Trail 1P:I like that its got pockets at both ends of the tent - and an easy reach with either arm. The length of the tent is comfortable; my feet don't touch. A wide pad fits well in it. Setup is really easy. I love the short sleeves at the corners for no fuss/worries about a pole coming out when you go the other corner to secure the other end of the pole. Nice design. The tent is symmetrical so no matter where you need the door you're setup is always the same. There is no 'head' or 'foot' end. The materials seem robust. The rainfly is easy to put in place and secure - whenever the need to put on a rainfly was there my brother had me beat by a huge margin on setup time. I like that the poles are straight no pre-bent proprietary poles. I like rolling up my tent and air mat all in one using the poles as the core of the roll. You can't do that with prebent poles. I like the dark no-seeum mesh. It seemed that bugs were attracted to the Tungsten's light green mesh compared to the black of the Discovery Trail. It's also easier to see through the black mesh. In general I like the darker/muted colors of this tent compared to other offerings on the market. There's around a pound difference between the two tents that's the only thing that would make me hesitate on which tent to bring on my next solo adventure. Like I said I'm impressed by the tent for the price point. I originally bought this for putting on a paddleboard which is sitting across the front end of my brother's Hobiecat so I have bug protection when in the Keys. Not having your toes touch the tent is pretty key if you don't want your toes throbbing in the middle of the night from no-seeums and mosquitos having a feast (speaking from experience). It'd be interesting to take this exact design and make an UL version using fabrics like DCF ECOPAK or ULTRA.Happy trails my friends.

Sleek one person

Not the lightest but super affordable. Good rain fly coverage easy up and down. Great just as bug shield without Rfly
