ONE minute out of the box and up and "running." All it took was to remove the protective shipping materials and stand it up and flip the shelves down onto the waiting ledge tabs. No tools required. Small footprint, this small bookcase is perfect for small areas. Love it. Fastest home improvement project ever AND it has nubs on top so another folding bookcase can increase your shelf space to 6 shelves. This is my second one- one in the bedroom and one in the study. Lovely, functional design that can just about go anywhere.
