This item is white metallic mesh. It has no dividers or partitions within the tray, so it is entirely open. Most people would probably want to place this item inside of a drawer for the purpose of partitioning it or to containing smaller items within a larger drawer. I wanted it for a different use. I placed it on top of the counter for the purpose of containing accumulating mailed envelopes %26 other small items such as pens, small bottles or other objects in order to contain them on the counter.
