Flowy light weight smocked pants
My daughter is wearing a size XL 14-16. She is in between a L-XL right now but these are definitely too big for her. They're a lightweight flowy material, with an elastic waist. The rope drawstring is just for looks, not to actually adjust the waist size. It runs big and isn't easily adjustable due to the elastic waist. I'd stay with your true size or size down if between sizes, not up!

Pretty and versatile smocked waist pants
My ten year old daughter is 4 foot 3 inches tall, weighs approximately 58 lbs, and tried on the size medium 7-8 in these smocked waist pants from Wonder Nation. I think the size is perfect for her. There is a little growing room and the length is perfect. She likes how comfortable they are and I really love the pattern and design! I think she can wear them to lounge around in or to dress up.

Everyday comfortable girls pants!
My daughter wears a size medium or a 7/8 in pants. Ordered these in medium and believe the waist is true to size. The waist band is stretchy and also has a draw string. She is on the shorter size so they seem a little longer on her. I love this material also. They are super soft and comfortable. You could definitely dress the pants up or wear casually. Great value for pants!
