Works great, I'd recommend bar mounting.

This device will hold a cell phone of up to 3 1/4 inch wide, maybe a bit more. Mine is an iPhone 8 Plus. The X pattern arms are extended almost all the way out on mine, and are very close together on either side. However it has never come close to losing the phone. I had it mounted to my brake reservoir mount, but no amount of tension pressure would stop it from moving a little bit over time. Yesterday I removed it and used the handlebar mount instead, on the same side but down on the angled part of my bar. This is a much better spot for it for adjustment purposes, it's right where I want it to be now. When it was mounted to the reservoir, I could never get it where I really wanted it. Now that it's moved, I love it. I apologize for the cluttered up background in the photo, and regret that I do not have a proper camera to take a picture of the mount with my cell phone in it.

Holds my iphone 6 and android nexus

As said I use this to hold an Iphone 6 or my Android. My Iphone 6 does have a protective case and it still fits. The only semi-annoying thing that the the top part of the X holder can push the buttons on my phone either volume or power. This isn't a huge deal since I just need to be careful when positioning the phone.
