Aluminum Scoops, 17.75 x 14.5 Blade, 48 in White Ash Straight Handle

I purchased this shovel for shoveling snow, and I think that it is well suited to this task. The only slight problem with this shovel is its weight. At a measured 4.5 lbs., it is a little on the heavy side, but its advantage is its heavy gauge (0.101 in.) blade and sturdy handle, which allow digging through hard packed snow from plowing without concern that the blade will be damaged. If there is no need for such heavy use, a lighter gauge blade is probably advisable to avoid the extra weight. The blade is also tempered which helps to ensure durability. I'm not aware of any universal sizing of shovel blade sizes, so it might be helpful to have the actual blade dimensions. Width at the tip is around 11.5 in., which quickly increases to around 14.25 in., its widest part. Width at the top edges tapers to around 13.5 in. near the middle of the blade, along the top edges, but the flat portion of the blade on its bottom is only around 6 in. wide near the back. The overall length from the tip to the top edge of the back is 16-7/8 in. (adjacent to the handle socket, but before the back edge curves sharply into the socket. The depth of the shovel measured from the bottom center to a straightedge held on the top edges of the sides is around 1.25 in. near the front to a maximum of 2-7/8 near the back. The overall length of the shovel from the blade tip to the handle end is 61 in.
