we have had many boat,water,beach,lake shoes and to be fair for the most part they were all the same and then we found some like these that you can tighten up at the back and that has made all the difference in the world. Normally with all other basic styles you just slip them on and then you run into to coast waters or lake etc and you have to curl your toes to keep them on. These eliminate that, you tighten and have fun. P.S. we ordered 8 for 8.5 and it fits but barely so hope that helps as their 9 might be great or too large
