The Encyclopedia of Edible Plants of North America (Paperback)

I found this book at our local library and checked it out. After just a hour of paging through it, I knew I wanted to own it. I have a few other wild edible plant books but none is as thorough and as comprehensive as this book. The geographical range is all of North America, including most of Mexico. But it also includes species from Europe and Asia that were brought to North America one way or another and have escaped to the wild. Besides the herbaceous (non-woody) edible plants, this book covers trees, shrubs, ferns, horsetails and grasses. BE ADVISED - This is NOT a plant identification guide and it is so stated in the Introduction. Also, the species are arranged by botanical family, then by genus and species within each family. Some knowledge of Latin botanical names would be helpful. Because of the inclusion of so many species, I have discovered new wild edibles in my own neighborhood. This is a must-have book for nature-lovers, gourmets and survivalists!
