I think they run true to size. Th fabric is denim "type" and not too warm. They have enough stretch to feel very comfortable. I got the dark denim which is a nice slimming color. They do stretch and will eventually feel a bit bigger. If you do not want them to stretch or follow your body line and show every imperfection, it might be better to size up.
