Excellent Replacement Tool

This high quality ratchet quickly replaced all three of the ⅜" drives I had accumulated in my tool box over the years (see photo). At first I thought the handle was too slim; I'm 6'-2" with big hands. But after using it on several jobs over the past week, the curves in the handle fit well with my hand positions giving strong application of force. The overall tool is well balanced, plus the push-button socket release makes jobs requiring frequent size changes a breeze. I re-assembled a lawn cart (photo) with new OSB panels using all ¼" galvanized nuts and bolts. Highly repetitive with over 30 connections. This ratchet was a pleasure to use with excellent transfer of torque and a great "feel" for tightening each bolt just right. I also installed a new garage door opener (photo) that required multiple socket sizes and limited work space in some areas. The quick socket release was a pleasure to use and the finer gearing of the ratchet was really noticeable and beneficial in several tight spots. My three "old" ratchets are getting donated to the Habitat ReStor and now I want to know when I am getting the ¼" and ½" drive sizes of this ratchet? I have some auto repair coming up that will definitely need ½" drive muscle!! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Great Ratchet, With Minimal Drawbacks

Overall: The Stanley Black Chrome 3/8" Drive 120 tooth ratchet is a great product for working in tight spaces. It made a difference for me when working under the seat of my motorcycle and interior of my truck. Fit and Finish: The Black Chrome finish is a nice touch. It looks like a high quality tool from a distance and up close. The low-profile switch blends nicely with the design and contours of the ratchet. The handle contours are nice, and would fit any sized hand, even with gloves. The large quick release button is easily operable with gloves and securely holds a socket. The 120 tooth, Dual-Pawl mechanism allows for working in tight spaces, and operation is quiet compared to other ratchets I have used. Drawbacks: While this ratchet is great and an improvement over many other brands, there are a few minor drawbacks. The first being that the low-profile reversing switch is almost too low-profile. It can be difficult to operate, and nearly impossible while wearing gloves. The second issue relates to the reversing switch as well, in that it scratches the Black Chrome finish, and has started to groove into the metal. Although not a major issue, it is a little hard to look at. But if you want to keep most tools looking new, you can't put them to use. And note, these drawbacks are minor and may not be issues for you. Conclusion: Despite the minor drawbacks with the reversing switch, the ratchet functioned as intended with zero performance issues. The 120 tooth design adds versatility and convenience over a traditional 60 tooth design. The operation of the ratchet is reliable and quieter than many other ratchets. It not only looks good, but functions easily in tight spaces. I would recommend this ratchet to anyone looking for a greater number of ratcheting teeth and who needs to work in tight spaces.
