Comes with 3 blades. Yes, you do have to assemble it. This consists of unscrewing the single screw, removing one half of the metal item, removing the plastic packaging, placing the two extra blades in the handle, placingthe cutting blade against the thumb button and replacing the metal half, then screwing it all back together again. I've used worse and this one works very well.

I have one of those, and while the grip is great, the plastic swing-out part is a pain to reassemble. I like that this one doesn't have the swing-out compartment. The blades do rattle around in the compartment though, but again, I get these knives for the performance and most of my blades have their own dispensers This one is a little short, but still has a good grip and it feels solid. Might be good for smaller hands (mine are large). The blades it comes with are pretty good general-purpose Stanley blades. I do prefer DeWalt (sharp for long) or Milwaukee (really sharp), but these do a good job. Also, you'll be replacing blades anyways, and I got this for the handle, and that it's made in the USA.
