Rubbermaid, Step on Wastebasket, 13 gal, Plastic, Black

I have another version of this waste basket and I find that this one has some improvements like a metal spoke that holds the flip top in place. Since the other broke (it was plastic) I'm hoping that the device lasts longer. The slightly oval shape does make it just a bit difficult to put the trash bag inside but can be handled. All in all a good purchase.

It holds a lot of trash and works great. The lid didn't come attached to the bin, but it was easy to put on; 1.) Put lid on top of bin and put the metal opening rod from the bin into the hole on the lid. (Do this step FIRST.) 2.) Working with one side at a time, insert plastic peg(s) on the bin into the hole(s) on the lid. There's a total of two; one on each side. I found it easier for me to put the whole bin on my tabletop, so that it was up high enough so that I could see what I was doing. It was also easier for me to have the lid in an upright (open) position while I was attaching the lid to the bottom bin part. One person commented that they needed/used a hammer to attach the two pieces together. LOL If you need a hammer you're putting it together WRONG and you can break the plastic pins. Not a good idea. Another person commented that they weren't happy, because the lid didn't close by itself, after they stepped on the foot pedal at the bottom of the bin to open it. They must not have put the lid on correctly, (or didn't trim away the excess plastic on the two plastic pins on the bin; an easy job to do because the excess plastic is thin and is easily removed with a razor blade, x-acto knife, or a sharp small knife) because mine closes up immediately, and automatically, as it should, after I remove my foot from the opening pedel at the bottom of the bin. The lid easily opens and closes by hand too, btw. The inner bag holder piece isn't hard to figure out either. Just lift each side up, one at a time, and place your 13 gal., tall kitchen trash bag, underneath each corner and then press each side back down again to firmly hold the bag in place. (P.S. I didn't need to, or try to, take this whole piece out, because I didn't want to risk breaking it. It works just fine and keeps the trash and trash bag from falling into the bin. A big improvement over my last 13 gal. trash bin.) I absolutely recommend this 13 gal., RUBBERMAID, step on, plastic trash bin. (Wastebasket)
