Sunscreen for your clothes!

This is not a dye, per se. It's a great inexpensive way to add sun protection to your clothes, especially if you don't like using sunscreen on your skin. It should be used only with cottons and linens that can be washed at high temperature. (Synthetic knits already have at least some UPF, even if it isn't stated on the label.) The chemical in the laundry aid is a powder form of a sunscreen that has been in use in Europe for a long time. It hasn't yet been approved for use in the US, for some mysterious reason.

I've used Sun Guard for 15 years and swear by it!

I have loved Sun Guard since my skin cancer surgery 15 years ago! It doesn't leave any odor or change the feel or appearance of clothing so I cant tell it is there. I used to list the clothes I had washed in it but now photograph treated loads, print the pictures and keep them in my closet so I know which clothes are UV screening. I know Sun Guard really works. I have put treated clothes in the full sun over beads that change color when exposed to UV rays and the beads don't change. Although I burn easily I can count on my Sun Guard-treated clothes to protect me from burning. The Skin Cancer Foundation has tested it and given it their seal of approval. One box of powder provides protection for a full load of laundry for up to 20 washings. At a few dollars a load and lasting for many washings, Sun Guard is a bargain, especially given the high price of most UV-protective clothing. I normally wash clothes in cold water but find that washing them once in warm water, as the instructions say, doesn't hurt them. Sun Guard will not affect polyester or nylon because those fabrics are naturally UV resistant. Sun Guard is a fantastic product!
