Thick enough to prevent him from getting hurt with the tile floor. Great colors, and fun shapes that my now 1 yr old loves getting in and out of its place; it doesn't have little pieces that can be dangerous for smaller children (like the ones with letters instead of shapes have). The only draw back is that with only 6 blocks you have to get two to have a decent play space which can make it more expensive buy, many of the cheaper ones I found were too thin and didn't work for me anyways.
