Stove Top DirectionsPick a Protein: 1-1/2 lbs., cut into bite-sized pieces⢠Smoked Sausage ⢠Cooked Chicken ⢠Shrimp.* Cook: Mix 3-3/4 cups water; Rice Mix, meat of your choice and 2 Tbsp. vegetable or olive oil (optional) in 3-quart saucepan until well blended. Delicious and healthy
I tried Zatarain's Low Sodium Jambalaya Rice and found it to be a handy, flavorful option when you want something quick but still a bit bold. The rice cooks up fluffy and the mix has a nice blend of bell pepper, onion, and spices — it tastes like a milder jambalaya, not as fiery or smoky as a homemade version, but pleasant. The reduced salt is noticeable but not bad; the seasoning feels balanced and you can always add a little salt or hot sauce if you want more punch. It's very easy to make (one pot, about the time it takes to cook rice) and makes a good base for adding leftover chicken, shrimp, or sausage. The package size is convenient for a small family or two people. If you're watching your sodium, this is a solid compromise between flavor and health.

Taste like the original
I got this for free as part of a promotion but have been a loyal Zatarain's fan for decades. I'm sure like most people, my doctor has been on me to lower salt intake to help with my blood pressure. So I was excited to see that to see this reduced sodium version of there jambalaya mix. I made it with some leftover chicken breast and some smoked sausage and it was just as delicious as the original mix. I thought it might be less spicy but it still left that perfect burn that I was accustomed too. I would highly recommend it to anybody trying to make their doctor proud.

Simple and easy
This was a simple and easy meal to make. The directions were clear and was able to made by a teenager. The jambalaya needs a protein like a sausage to add flavor. The salt content of it was spot on to account for a tasty protein. Definitely will purchase this as it made for a quick meal during the week!
