very nice wood with functional protective finish. easy chopstick like movement. for wide bagel halves insert index and middle finger of holding hand to widen to sufficient width. bought my first set of 4; using 1, gave 2 to close cooking companions as a friendly gift, then final 1 as a safety reserve. plan to buy another set of 4 same soon. highly recommended by this industrial design engineer.
