Very nice

I mounted this scope on a 700 BDL in .270 with some Nikon medium bases. I had to remove the ramp on the rear sight for the scope to fit. Which was fine with me as this brings the scope down close to the barrel. The adjustments on the scope were very easy to use and easy to adjust. The scope is bright with a very clear image. For about $170 you get a very good scope. I am really pleased with this Nikon scope. Walmart had the best price which is a plus. I am over 60 and have been shooting for awhile.

Own Two Of Them

I own two of these ProStaff scopes and love both of them. I've been hunting for 36 years and have always heard/read that you should have more invested in the glass than you do in the rifle. That may be case for extreme long range hunting or competition shooting but I feel that axiom is asinine for the vast majority of hunters out there. probably around 80% of the dozens of whitetail and bears I've killed over the years have been shot within 150 yards, and any good quality scope is up to that task. And I would venture to guess that's probably the case for a high percentage of hunters nationwide. If you hunt timbered areas, think about how far you can honestly take a clean shot. You will soon realize that a $1,000 scope is not needed. And in most of those cases, you don't have the luxury of setting up on sandbags or bench rest and taking your time for a "perfect" shot. Most of the time it all happens within 10 seconds, you see it, shoulder, aim and fire. In those cases, even the best made scope out there is only as good as your ability to off hand shoot. But I do realize that there are a lot of folks who do hunt wide open spaces where very long shots are the norm, and for them, a more sophisticated scope is called for. Now then, the Nikon ProStaff is an outstandingly well made scope for it's price range. Very clear optics with excellent light gathering abilities. Once you get it zeroed, it will keep that zero and withstand the normal bumps and bangs the average hunting rifle receives. One of mine is going on 5 years sitting on top of a 30-06 and it has never lost zero and the scope is still crystal clear and bright. At the range I've stretched it legs out to 300 yards and it will put the bullet where I want it to, if I do my part. If the opportunity presented itself, I would feel comfortable using the scope out to 400 yards, beyond that may be a different story. The dial for the magnification setting is still firm and it never looses the setting I put it on (usually 5). In five years it has seen all kinds of weather conditions from warm to cold and rain and snow, and it has never fogged up, even when my binocs did. So if you are the average hunter with the vast majority of your shots falling under 400 yards, this ProStaff will be all the scope you will ever need, and it will serve you well for many years..Don't listen to all the internet arm chair hunting/shooting "experts" that tell you that you must have a very expensive scope. But please don't think I'm calling the ProStaff a "cheap" scope, it certainly is not.
