White Dutch Clover, Trifolium repens, is a perennial white clover. It is versatile and widely used for ground cover, cover crops, erosion control, in pasture mixtures and in lawns. However, Outsidepride also offers Miniclover® which is a better lawn clover. It is more dwarf only reaching approximately 4 inches tall, has a much smaller leaf blade, and it is not as aggressive as White Dutch. Homeowners often add White Clover to their lawns because it fixates nitrogen into the soil and 1/3 of the lawn's nitrogen needs can come from clover. It usually is grown in cool season grasses and can be seeded along with the grass seed. It grows vigorously even in poor clay subsoil that is often found around new home construction. White Dutch Clover can be seeded by broadcasting the seed on the prepared soil and raking it in lightly. Keep the seed moist until germination occurs which is usually within 14 days with temperatures of 65 - 70F. Nitro-Coat rhizobium strains are specifically chosen for each seed type. The weight of the clover seeds will contain approximately 34% coating material that contains the inoculant and water holding material for better establishment and viability of the seed. There is no difference in the seeding rates between the coated and raw seed due to the increased germination and viability of the bulk clover seeds that are coated and inoculated.
