Works well as PUTTY - ROLL AND PUSH IN GAP

This was my first time using this product type and doing this type of DIY task [damaged-wood Repair]. I expected the product to be like an easy glue/pasting on. In Summer 2023, I initially had a difficult time using this Plastic Wood, as it was CRUMBLY sometimes, but I was able to SMOOTH IT into the gap of my garage post. Recently in Fall 2025, I noticed that a chunk fell out, so I ROLLED/SMOOTHED putty for FILLING IN the large wood gap, and it seemed to work [fill in] nicely. The area is somewhat-hard, but I'm not sure if it is hard enough for sanding. I expect to re-paint the area - one day. Overall, I would buy again – to repair and fill in damaged exterior wood holes / gaps.

My go-to for repairing wood holes

I bought this to fill in gaps around the house, and it's been a lifesaver! It worked great for filling in rotted wood holes (make sure to take out all the dry, brittle bits first), for areas where you are fixing the work of an overzealous handyman, for those spots where you move the latch on door frames, and even for wood where the threads in a screw hole have worn out over time. Usually, I just needed to apply it, sand it down, and then prime or paint it. But if I'm fixing a screw hole (like I did on some hinges on the door frame), I find that doing that, letting it dry, drilling a pilot hole, and then applying a bit more before screwing in the screw gives the best fit. I also keep some wood epoxy around, but this is so much easier to use and usually comes out just as good. The only place where I prefer wood epoxy would be to fix high-traffic areas on floors or spots on door frames where the deadbolt has slammed into the frame and damaged that wood since it dries a bit harder than wood and reduces future damage.

Easy to use-works well

Used on porch poles that were splitting and had some damage at the base. Easy to use product. I applied with a putty knife and smoothed with my fingers if needed. The poles look great now!
