Collectively, we call this spice “Guinea pepper.” Locally called kale, kukauabe, masoor, baseman, and soro wisa, dried Uziza Leaves are a close relative of cubeb pepper and a relative of black pepper and long pepper. In terms of flavor, this pepper is very similar to cubeb pepper but is much less bitter and has a fresher more herbaceous flavor.
