Moen 86440BRB Caldwell Two Handle Deck Mounted Roman Tub Faucet Trim and Valve Included, Mediterranean Bronze

We were replacing the fixtures on our roman bathtub including the underneath manifold. When the installation contractor went to put it in he found the spacing of our existing faucets was 8" while the Caldwell 86440 set was 10". He had to cut and solder the manifold to make it fit. I think the box ought to show that's it's for a 10" spacing and will need to be modified for an existing 8" installation. The good part was that our contractor did not charge us for the modification.

My wife and I picked out the Moen Caldwell CA84440 because it fit our installation situation (an old fashioned bathroom lavatory) and we liked the "heft" of the design: solid castings, large handles, etc. However, when I opened the box just prior to installation I was surprised to find that the drain parts (supplied with the faucet) were plastic — lightweight at that. Well I installed the unit and I thought that was that. However, the very next day my wife calls to me from the bathroom to ask why there were brown stains on the new drain parts. In only one night, the chrome finish on these parts began to deteriorate and fail. Some sort of reaction was happening around the tiny defects in the chrome finish. That day I called up Moen's customer support service and requested replacement parts. They just arrived, so I can't tell you if the replacement parts will hold up any better.
