These are advertised as thick socks, but they are not thick. They are not as thin as dress socks, but they are not as thick as athletic socks. And the toe and heel are the same thickness as the rest of the sock. I bought another package of wool socks that are thicker than these and I bought boots wearing those thicker socks. When I wear these socks with those same boots, it makes the boots feel too big and my foot flops around in them so be warned that if you buy these cute wool socks, they are thin. I have included a picture of the thicker socks for comparison below. I'll be keeping these socks and giving them away as stocking stuffers because they're individually wrapped, which is very convenient. :-)

I haven't yet laundered them but they are roomy on my size 7-7.5 foot(38) they are comfortable and warm for autumn. I hope they dry well and if they shrink, that it would be minimal. They rise 4-5 inches above ankle bone. They're enough to wear with most casual shoes.
