HART 2-Piece 4.5-inch Flap Disc 36 Grit

I had an old metal glider that has been handed down from my parents. It really took a beating from the weather and needed old paint and some rust spots smoothed out. These wheels made the so much easier with a grinder than sanding it down by hand. Saved a lot of time.

I have always used 60 or 80 grit discs to remove rust on steel items, fearing that a more aggressive disc would scratch and mar the surface way too much. I tried this Hart 36 grit disc on an old 55 gallon steel drum I was using for scrap rebar storage. I was very surprised to discover that it not only got the job done a lot faster than the 60 or 80 grit discs but it left the surface almost as smooth and the weaker discs. I also gave it a shot sanding a large steel triangular windchime to remove some heavy rust. It worked well on that too. Light pressure results is a smoother finish. The best was when I sharpened my ride-on lawnmower blades with it. I had heard you could do this with an aggressive disc and boy did this one get the job done - nice, shiny and sharp blades on the old horse now!! If you haven't tried one of these, I recommend you pick one up and try it on a few sanding jobs you have waiting around for you. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised!
