Being prepared for an unwanted fire...

Being prepared for an unwanted fire is what these devices do. Being in one room sleeping and not hearing a smoke alarm in another room is what could happen. The Con: If other people in near by residents owning similar devices have these alarms that would affect the alarms in your resident. The device does have the ability to by pass the wireless mode and be wired together using the same fuse circuit. That would be a hassle to do, it does have that capability.

Announces Location of the Fire

The original wired smoke alarm that the builder of the home finally failed and so I was happy to find a First Alert One-Link alarm that was wired to replace it. Previously, we installed battery operated ones in each bedroom, garage and laundry room (laundry room has carbon monoxide also as it is right next to the garage.) So after you press some buttons on one of the alarms, all of the alarms will annouce a fire and the location of the fire.

First Alert Hardwired Wireless Smoke Alarm

This First Alert Smoke Alarm model interconnects to both the same hardwired version and the battery-operated version very well. The installation template didn't align with the holes from my previously owned Kidde smoke alarms, and thus I needed to drill new holes in my wall since I didn't want the First Alert logo to be laying sideways. There is a procedure you must follow in the instruction manual that place all of your compatible interconnected smoke alarms in the same "network". Inside your house, when one smoke alarm detects smoke, then ALL of your smoke alarms sound their alarms. This is a FANTASTIC safety feature that saves a lot of lives, and more than a few homes every year. (If a fire starts in your attached garage, and your bedroom is located in a distant wing of the house, you will quickly know about the garage fire.) Unfortunately this model doesn't have the same voice ability as the battery operated version to state its location to the other battery operated versions. The battery operated versions allow you to select one of 11 standard names for each alarm. (Kitchen, Living Room, Hallway, Child's Room, etc.) I was surprised to read in the instruction manual that this smoke alarm is only warranted for seven years, instead of the ten years that I was expecting. I was surprised to see that the test button (also the same button as the temporary "hush" button is located on the TOP side of the detector. (Why not redesign the detector cover to place the test/hush button on the BOTTOM side of the detector to make it easier to reach?) I know that I could probably mount the detector upside down, but the writing would be upside down and wouldn't that look stupid?
