Cheap protection!
This is a no-brainer! The built-in battery lasts for 10 years, then you dispose of the unit and get another one. Consumer Reports and Kidde both recommend that you replace your smoke detectors every 10 years anyway as the sensors degrade over time. The twist here is that you don't have to feed it a new 9V alkaline battery every year, saving you $30-40 over a ten year period. It mounts easily on drywall with 1 screw - drill a single 3/16" hole and install the tiny mounting plate with a Phillips screwdriver. Brilliant!

Easy to install
The fact that this lasts for 10 years sold me. I love not having to worry about changing the battery every 6 months. This covers a huge living area. It is very important to have one in your home and having one you don't have to worry about is great.

No more battery charging
My new house (to me) has the old style smoke detectors and I have had to change batteries fairly often. This Kidde 10-year detector offers a greatly appreciated respite from climbing ladders every year and replacing the more expensive 9-volt batteries. Only usage will determine if this detector lives up to its expectations but the reviews have been good and the company has a good reputation. No problems are expected. There is an instruction sheet showing where to install the unit and, more important where to avoid. I am in the process of buying more of these to replace all of my older detectors. Installation is simple with the two screws provided.
