These are designed to resist ants. The center base rests on the ground, but the lip is slightly raised. The "maze" does work better than any of my other bowls for keeping ants away (not perfect, but a big improvement ... depending on how smart the ant scout is!) Very expensive at $13, but I am happy with the two-pak of bowls. Also has a non skid base, so it stays put while pets eat. They are unbreakable, too.

Love the concept, but some pets drop "crumps" outside the bowl. I've been using ant traps and my last ones are ready to expire, so I'm still waiting to see if these will at least keep them out of the pet food. I was disappointed in the quality. They appear to be a nice stainless steel, but are a plastic coated metal (probably aluminum, given the light weight). I'm not sure how long that will last or if it will peel off. I bought them for a cat, so I thought a 1 cup size was fine. They are very "shallow" and I wish I'd bought a 2 cup size. They do have a ring like application of rubber (gripping) material applied to the bottom to keep them from sliding, but given the light weight they could still be pushed by a persistent pet. The jury is still out of how long they'll last and whether they'll actually keep the ants out of the food, but so far they do seem to work for the purpose they were designed for.
