This model features an innovative design that has an automatic activation system that's unlike any other. This Kidde smoke alarm will instantly activate when it 's attached to the mounting bracket. There are no pull-tabs, no switches and everything is automatic. At the end of its life, the unit will chirp, which indicates that it's in need of a replacement. Users can use a simple tool like a screwdriver to deactivate the unit, stopping the low-battery chirp and making it safe for disposal. The sealed-in board-mounted battery will power the i9010 unit for its complete 10 year life. No replacement battery will ever be needed. Does the job at a good price
Was originally looking at combination smoke & CO detectors, but found out that while smoke detectors should be changed out every 10 years, CO detectors should be changed out every 5 years. Also, recommended placement of each is different, so purchasing separately made more sense. I bought separate CO detector (First Alert CO605 plug-in model with battery backup)...great price too.
