The lower platform raises the shin off of the ground alleviating pressure on the ankles. Love these Toughbuilt Pads
What's not to love about my new Toughbuilt FoamFit Thigh Support Stabiliation Knee Pads ? Perfect fit, easy to adjust and they stay where you affix them. Had to do a water heater job in my crawl space at home and these pads out performed even my high expectations.

I have purchased 4 pairs of these. They are by far the most durable pads of any I have owned. I am just rough on them. Many of my friends have also bought these. I will continue to have these on hand for the rest of my life. Can not be beat.
