Bad news and good news. Bad news first: I could not for the life of me loosen this after removing it from the packaging. My husband managed to push the blue lever to loosen it. It took a lot of hand strength that not everyone has. The good news: once loosened, I used it to remove the hose stuck to my outdoor spigot, which was a big victory and made this purchase 100% worth it.
