I Don't recommend this rack for a beginner in a hurry. Complete assembly requires purchase of treated lumber that is expensive, heavy and difficult to move without a truck. I elected to build an 8' rack. The base requires two 8'- 2x4 and one 9' - 2x4 in between. For safety I decided to place a 9'- 2X6 between the two 8' - 2X4's on the base. Two additional 8' - 2X4's are needed for the two 48" vertical upright posts at each end. Of course some sawing is required. A handsaw will do the job. When fully loaded, the 2X4 suspension bridge may sag in the middle. If the rack was redesigned to turn the 2X4's on end the strength would be sufficient without the need for a third centre support board.
