The 20 recordings on this compilation were made in the early '60s by Chess producer/engineer Norman Dayton with his Ampex portable reel-to-reel machine in small clubs and makeshift studios set up in basements and apartments throughout Chicago. Completely live with no overdubbing, this is the music exactly as it was played! The highlights are too numerous to mention in their entirety, but especially sublime are Dr. Isiah Ross' Chicago Breakdown and V-8 Ford Blues by James Cotton with Paul Butterfield on harp and Elvin Bishop on National resonator guitar! Varese Sarabande.
