No assembly needed. Arrives in a big box ready to fill. 8 bags of sand fills to the top. The sandbox sand sold today is dirty and if your child has allergies rinsing it is a good idea to rinse. Do it during hot day so it can dry. The top keeps sand dry and cats out.
