The comforter is a nice black. The comforter felt very soft to me, but my daughter said it wasn't as thick as another bed set I bought so I am returning it. If it were up to me I would keep it. If you have animals it might be hard to keep clean because it is pitch black. I would recommend this comforter. It felt like a more expensive comforter, not really thin but actual down material.
