30 in 35 7/8"H-W Aluminum Ceiling Truss Damper, 28-3/4 in x 33-7/8 in, Aluminum

We put our Masterflow Whole House fan in almost 20 years ago and it does a great job of cooling the house during the cool evenings and nights of summer, as well as clear out smoke from my cooking mistakes or the occasional bad odors that the house gets. The sore spot of it though has been how the shutter rattles when it runs, despite my attempts to silence it by working on it. Like lots of things, you just get used to it and in fact it kind of was like a white noise during our sleeping hours, being as how our bedroom is several rooms away. But this past summer the racket has become more irritating and I looked into replacing the original shutter assembly. I found this one and ordered, not expecting great improvements. Man, was I wrong! The old shutter assembly had a plastic frame and metal shutters, but this one is entirely lightweight aluminum, with felt seals on the leading edge of the two outside shutters on both sides. The center shutters don't have the seal, which is kind of curious, but I used some thin foam weatherstripping on the fixed center panel where the unsealed shutters contact it to help seal it. Additionally the struts they use to articulate the shutters evenly and the assembly with a arm and torsion spring to help lift the shutters when the fan is active all seem to work together to keep the rattling away. The difference is so amazing that I still get a huge smile when the fan comes on. To say the sound from the shutters is lessened is just not enough, it's almost nonexistent. The hum of the fan is all that I really hear now and is soooooo much more easy on the ears. I can't say how happy I am with this purchase and wish that I had done this way back when I first put the fan up.
