Tough and functional

I've been wanting to buy this for some time and I wish I would've sooner! I've ran through too many colemans to remember, being a concrete contractor, my coolers live a rough life. This cooler rolled down a 60 foot steep hill like it was nothing! It can be sat on and best yet stacks with all my tough system toolboxes.

ToughSytem Cooler is cooler than yours

DeWALT's newest cooler is the right size for loads of beverages inside with room for ice. It fits 18 cans per level with 2 levels = 36 iced down cans of your favorite beverage. Two refrigerator packs stack in this thing in their boxes--that's grab and go fast. Integrated bottle opener on the side is super-handy. IP65 rated so it can ride in the back of the truck, get sprayed off at the site, and everything inside will be clean and ready to drink—no grit, no trail water. I am tempted to take this through a car wash to see if it stays dry inside—I think it would because the clamps are super-strong and the rubber gasket around the lid is like the gasket on my freezer. Lockable with tabs up front. Over-built handles are what I've come to expect from DeWALT. It racks into the ToughSystem van racking and carrier cart, and it's the right size to carry if no cart is around. Yes, that top handle is TOUGH! I filled to the top with cans and ice and carried the cooler with that handle. No drain plug means there's no accidental leak from the cooler onto loaded tool boxes beneath it or onto the floor of your van; no fail point = no fail. Finally, does it keep things cold? Yes, absolutely. I have been using this for a month, and never ran out of cold, so I designed a torture test: two four-packs of bottle and a 12-pack of cans, all room temperature, and a single 8-lb block of ice. The cooler wasn't pre-cooler, either. You can see my video—I loaded room temperature cans and bottles into a room temperature cooler, and placed a single 8-lb block of ice in the cooler, then left it in my garage (I'm in AZ, and my garage faces west and south, and it's a simple block building, so no insulation). I opened it every day to get a drink out, because that's what a cooler is for. I had ice for 3 days, and cold drinks for four days. By the fourth day the temp was up to 43 and no more ice. That was a single 8-lb block of ice! If I would have pulled the drinks from the fridge I imagine day four would have had a bit of ice remaining. Of course, filling it so full with drinks left little room for ice, but I was impressed with the cold-keeping power of this cooler. Nice, DeWALT! The only change I would like to see is the two integrated cup holders on the top need to be smaller to provide a bit of friction for cans and bottles. This cooler outperforms!

I got the new Dewalt ToughSystem 27 qt. cooler to carry lunch and water bottles cool during the long work week. I usually park my truck outside during the day so it can get warm in there. I needed something to keep my food and drinks cool throughout the day to keep me going. The Dewalt cooler definitely does a great job at keeping everything cold for extended periods of time. In fact I was quite amazed at how well it does what it's supposed to do. The cooler said it retains ice for 5 days, so I tried it out and filled the cooler with ice and water bottles to last me through the week. After 2 full days, the ice I loaded in was still completely frozen with no melting of the ice at all. By day 3, the inside was still very cold and there was some ice that had melted, but most of the ice was still solid. Fast forward to the end of day 5, and I was eager to see how the cooler was performing, so I opened it up, and low and behold, there was still a good amount of ice inside the cooler. I would say there was still about half the ice present and the cooler contents remained cold. I had a big smile on my face after seeing that, because I wasn't expecting to see that much ice preserved. The build quality on the cooler is excellent. The walls and lid have a very strong and sturdy feel to it and the hinges are thick plastic with a metal center. Insulation on the cooler is also very good. I measured how much insulation the cooler has, after seeing how long it keeps the ice cold, and found the lid is 2 inches of solid insulation. The walls of the cooler ranged from 2.5 to 2 inches also. With the cooler able to keep things cold so well, and the strong build quality, this would be an excellent cooler choice to take on week long camping trips. I was quite impressed with the cooler's performance and I will be getting much use out of this during my long hot days at work as well. Two thumbs up on this one, I definitely recommend this cooler.
