Crown Prince kippers are tasty and do not contain any preservatives. These are a good source of protein and vitamin D. The flavor is mellow and smoky, not too fishy and not too salty. Good straight up or with crackers.

I am very happy to have found these available on iHerb because they were a better value (on sale) than my usual online retailer. My husband eats them daily and we have had to keep switching brands due to high sodium content or decreasing amount of product in the cans (for ever-increasing prices, of course). He has become highly frustrated at this. However, iHerb sells them at a great, competitive price point (on sale or not) and the low sodium, coupled with a high protein content for one can, makes them a very healthy protein source for him. It is also nice that these are already peppered, since he puts lemon or lime juice and pepper on them when he eats them, so now he saves a partial step and only has to add the citrus. One must shop carefully in this brand, though, as I've seen some listed as "low sodium" and the sodium content is 13%, I believe, as opposed to 3% for these (and another types that is not peppered). Be sure to check the sodium contents, if that is a concern for you. We will be buying these again and again, so I hope they keep making them (and not shorting the amount inside, as that is highly dishonest toward customers--unfortunately, it seems to be happening with several brands of kippers).
