Surprising torque

I was skeptical of the 2200 inch-pound claim. 2200 divided by 12 is 183 ft-pounds which is a lot (nobody in the real world measures impact wrench torque in inch-pounds). Most car and SUV lug nuts require less than 100 ft-lbs. After testing it on my Tacoma which calls for 83 ft-lbs, I tried the Hart impact driver on a 95 Ford F-super duty dually which has 140 ft-lb stamped on each lug nut. After rattling for a few seconds, the lugnut started turning and then spun off. I tried it on several lug nuts. Then I rattled them back on, being careful to not over tighten. I finished with a click torque wrench, and it only required about 1/8 turn to get to 140 ft pounds. I could have easily exceeded the 140 ft-lbs with the Hart torque wrench if I had kept rattling. It's important to be careful to not over-torque, especially with lug nuts, as is the case with all heavy duty impact drivers. This one doesn't have multiple torque settings, just forward and reverse. To do that test I used a 1/4" hex to 1/2" square drive adapter which I bought separately. The only drive tool that the driver came with was a #2 Phillips bit. There are several different accessory kits available, with adapters, sockets and screwdriver bits. If you buy the Hart accessories that are made for use with this driver, then you'll know that they're safe for impact use. Not all accessories that will fit a 1/4" hex drive are safe for impact use. I used it to remove some #3 Phillips screws that hold the cargo hooks in my Tacoma. I couldn't turn them by hand but the Hart impact driver quickly rattled them loose. Also bought a drill chuck adapter and it worked fine drilling 5/16 holes in a cinder block, but not any faster than my cordless drill. All in all a much better tool than I expected. I'm baffled as to why such a powerful tool has a 1/4" hex drive, and surprised that the adapter handled the torque! I charged the battery when I got it and have yet to have to recharge it. I highly recommend it!

Nice Home Workshop Impact Driver Kit

This is the newer Brushless model #HPID25VN single speed Impact Driver w/2a Battery #BPH002, and Charger #CGH001. I've been doing testing with this Hart model comparing it to my Ryobi P238 18v and my DeWalt XR 887 20v which both fall into the same price range, but the P238 and D887 both did better in many ways. The obvious, both those are 3 speed and include Fast Chargers, both have Battery level indicators, this Hart has neither and charges much slower. This Hart is a great household tool, it fits well in hand, has a nice headlamp, runs super slow to full 3000 no load RPM. The Hart motor is half as loud as the D887, and a bit quieter than the P238 as well. Personally I like the hand grip area better on the other two because they have a middle finger rest that feels better after time, but the Hart is spongier with raised tread-like grip area. The headlamp on this Hart HPID25VN is quite unique, it's mounted near the battery and shines upward and forward toward your workpiece which works very well lighting the workspace. One thing that's a but annoying on this Hart model is the Bit Chuck.. the locking collar needs to be pulled forward in order to lock the bit in, whereas my other chucks lock in the bits by just inserting them one handed. All models need the colar pulled forward to release the bits, but the Hart makes it necessary to use two hands because the Hart doesn't push the bit out, whereas the other models push the bit out some making it a one-handed operation. Overall the HPID25VN is a great machine for any home workshop, it drives the largest fasteners any homeowner would use, has a 3 year warranty, and the battery is cross compatible with many other Hart power tools. Recommended!

Great tool for home

This driver is as good or better than any I have had. It's compact size and powerful battery makes it a tool that is very useful and easy to handle. The hidden advantage of this driver is one I never would have thought of. The light stays on for several seconds after pulling the trigger. No more hunting for a screw head in a darkened area with a flashlight to set the driver bit into the screw. Just touch the trigger , release, find the screw easily with the light on and go to work. I would purchase this tool and recommend it.
